Our Slightly Odd Christmas Morning Tradition

For the first 12 Christmases of Ryan's life, my mom and sister have come to our house Christmas morning to watch him open gifts. Last year, which was our first Christmas here in the apartment, I told my mom she didn't have to come. Not because I didn't want her here, but because my kids were getting older, and I wanted her to start this tradition with her other grandchildren.

Last Christmas she went to my brothers house, and this year she went to my sisters. I know it meant a lot to her to spent time with the grand kids, and I know they love spending time with her.

The years she came to my house, I always made breakfast, which was usually some combination of eggs, biscuits, and home made cinnamon rolls (which are yummy!). The last year she came, though, she didn't stay for breakfast, so instead of cooking, we went to Hardee's, usually getting take out, and so began our new Christmas tradition.

This year, we decided to go in and eat. The kids were still all excited from opening gifts, but I was ready to go back to bed. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast of biscuits and hash browns, and lots of caffeinated sodas. (yes, we were all drinking soda at 7:30 am...it was Christmas...get over it! lol)
Surprisingly, we weren't the only ones there. There were also lots of men, which was kinda weird because there were no women. Maybe they were the dads who didn't get their kids until the afternoons.

Either way, we ate and headed back home, where I went back to sleep for a few hours. I'm thinking next year that we will venture to somewhere more exciting than Hardee's on Christmas morning...I just need to figure out what else is open!

:) that is very cool. i've been trying to think of different things to do with the kids to make our special tradition, but haven't come up w/ anything yet... i mean, we get up, open presents then get dressed and go to my parents house for breakfast and stuff and more presents, and just hang out there for a while, that is always nice, but i was thinking some tradition that i can have w/ them at home, but we'll have to work on it some more.
love your idea!! maybe we could do breakfast out, or something like that.
xoxo

I think that it doesn't matter what the tradition is....it is special to you and your family. So that makes yours even more special because it isn't generic.
