The "I'm Thankful" Post

On this Thanksgiving Day, I figured I would share with you some of the things I am most thankful for.

I am thankful that we have a roof over our heads and food in our tummies.

I am thankful for elephants, because they make me happy.

I am thankful for music, and for the fact that I can listen to it and enjoy it, especially Sugarland and Lady A.  They rock.

I am thankful for the color purple, because it is pretty.

I am thankful for my husband, who loves me despite the fact that I can be a total bitch sometimes.  Okay, a lot.  But he gets me, so it's all good.

I am thankful for my kids.  I love them more than life itself, and I am so happy to be their mom.

I am thankful for my family...my mom, dad, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, in-laws (not those in-laws...my sisters husbands and my brothers wife)...we may be growing up and focusing more on our own little families, but it is still awesome when we get together.

I am thankful for slipper socks.  They are the neatest little invention, and they keep my feet nice and warm.

I am thankful that Junior, the kids and I are all healthy, even though my mom seems to think I am having gall bladder issues, which is not fun, let me tell you.

I am thankful for television.  Cable television.  I don't think I could live without my Dexter and True Blood.  And Weeds.  Oh, and The Big C.  Yeah, I love TV.

I am thankful that I am happy.  I know there are a lot of people who go through life without ever truly being happy.  I am lucky that I have a family that knows how to goof off and laugh, and we do that a lot.

I am thankful for cheesecake.  Enough said.

• the house I live in...even though I hate it...there are people who have nowhere to live
• the food in our cabinets
• that my husband is employed...again, so many people are not
• my friends...who are like my family
• izea...they afford me the opportunity to work from home and be with my kids every day
• and all of you...who read this little old blog and support me in every way

I love you all!

Our First Thanksgiving Of The Year

Last night, we went and had turkey with Missy and her family. (notice the turkey hat on Sam's head...that thing is getting a lot of mileage!) There was good food and great friends, and really, what more can you ask for?

The kids had fun driving each other nuts while the adults hung out and ate. And eat I did! It has been a while since I have been this full. Missy makes a mean turkey!

When I stepped outside today to get my mail, I found a green box on my front porch.

I had my front door open, and I was singing some Lady Antebellum at the top of my lungs while washing dishes. Yeah, I am sure the mail lady heard me...slightly embarrassing! But hey, my kitchen is clean, and now I have a new hat. Wait til you see it! But first, let me show you what else was in the box.

Can you read the label??? It is...are you ready...tofurky and gravy soda. To be honest, I am afraid to try it, and am kind of relieved that I can not drink sugared soda. But, the kids and Junior have volunteered to be my guinea pigs on Thanksgiving...I'll let you know what they thought!

Deep Frying The Turkey

Thanksgiving is next week. I can not believe how fast this year has gone by. Before we know it, it is going to be a new year. To be honest, I am really looking forward to the new year.

But before we get there, we have to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving supper, too. My mom makes the best macaroni and cheese, and she only makes it for holidays, so I have been looking forward to this for a while. This will be the last year we do Thanksgiving somewhere other than my moms house. Colleen is hosting, and the only problem is that her oven isn't big enough for the turkey.

Junior has been after me for years to let him deep fry the turkey, and he just might get his wish this year. I would make him use an Oilless turkey fryer, which uses infrared technology instead of oil to cook the turkey. It gives the turkey the same flavor and texture, but without all the grease. I think turkey frying is a southern thing, because until I married my husband, I had never heard of such a thing. Last night on Food Network, the Challenge was Thanksgiving dinner, and two of the contestants deep fried their turkeys, and one of the teams that did won, so I guess it is a common method of cooking. I've just never heard of it.

Maybe we can start a new tradition of having fried turkey for Thanksgiving...

Free Christmas Countdown

I can not believe it is only one week until Thanksgiving! I am looking forward to my mom's homemade mac and cheese. There is nothing else like it! She only makes it three times a year. Thanksgiving. Christmas. Easter. Sometimes I can talk her into making it for my birthday, but that doesn't happen very often. But I tell you, that is the one food that makes me think "home".

When To Decorate

There seems to be a burning question in the blogosphere right now...when do you decorate for Christmas? Not just your house, but your blog, too. For me, I usually do it the weekend before Thanksgiving. Yes, before, because we used to have family come from up north for Thanksgiving, and they would stay the weekend. I didn't want to be putting up decorations while they were here. It's been a few years since they have come, but I still like to do it early.

Now, for my blog, I have my Christmas header all ready to go. But since I have the Thanksgiving one up now, I may as well wait until after to take it down.

So tell me. When do you decorate?

Two More Weeks

Thanksgiving is two weeks from today. I dread thinking about how much I am going to eat. Of course I can say that I am going to try and eat healthier, but who am I kidding? I know I am going to enjoy everything from appetizers to dessert. I think everyone takes a break from their diets on Thanksgiving. It's the day after that people start looking into lap-band surgery.
