Neighbors

I have the best neighbors.  I have never before lived in a place where I feel comfortable leaving Brandi home, running the neighborhood, with my neighbor agreeing to keep an eye on her.  I do the same thing for her daughter, too.  A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting outside after a particularly bad day, and she came upstairs with wine coolers, and we sat, drank, and talked for a while.  She's pretty awesome.

Last night, I was outside smoking, and she came upstairs with a bunch of free movie codes for me to use at one of those boxes outside of the grocery store.  She said her and her husband rent a different movie every night because like us, they don't have cable.  I love movies, so this was great.  My problem with movies, though, is that I like to buy them so I can watch them over and over again.  Because quite honestly, most times you can buy the movie cheaper than if you went to see it in the theater.  The last time I went to the movies, I took Ryan, Kasi, and one of Kasi's friends and spent almost $90 by the time we bought popcorn, drinks and tickets.  You can find all kinds of cheap bluray movies and DVD's online if you know where to look.  You can also buy microwave popcorn for way cheaper than at the theater, and honestly, it tastes a lot fresher, too.  Movie popcorn always tastes kind of stale to me.

So give me a movie, my couch, a diet pepsi, and a bag of microwave popcorn over a trip to the theater any day.  Plus, when watching a movie at home, you can pause it for potty breaks.  And if you know me at all, you know I need lots of potty breaks.

Halloween ~ The Ultimate Scary Movie

 Kasi has been on a mission for the past few weeks.  I made the mistake of telling her that the original Halloween is the scariest movie I have ever seen, and I refuse to watch it.  She took this as a challenge to look through Free Online Movies and try and find Halloween so that we can watch it together.  Because that is what we do.  We watch scary movies together, and I can't let her down.  I will have to suck it up and watch the movie.  And then have nightmares for a month.

We have yet to Watch Free Movies online.  We always rent them from my cable company. It will be interesting to sit in bed and watch Halloween on Ryan's laptop, but I guess we'll have to.  This particular movie is not available on demand.  I guess being about to See Movies Online is going to give Kasi the opportunity to scare me.

Sorority Row

Most of you know that Kasi and I are big horror movie buffs.  It is one of the things that her and I do alone together, without Ryan and Brandi.  This past weekend, we rented Sorority Row.

When this movie first came out, there was a lot of talk about it because it was Rumer Willis' first "big" movie roll.   (for those who don't know, she is the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore)  A lot of people were wondering if she could act, and I have to say, she did a pretty decent job. 

The story itself was pretty good, too.  A lot of horror movies are pretty predictable, but I was surprised when we found out who the killer was in the end. 

I recommend this movie for all you horror movie buffs out there.

Saving Money On Movie Tickets

Do you go to the movies often?  We don't, simply because it costs so much money these days.  The girls and I went to see Eclipse recently, and we went to the first show of the day so that we could pay matinee prices.  Even then, I still spent over $20 on three tickets.  I wish I had looked online and found these Fandango Bucks Movie Ticket Gift Certificates.   You can buy them for less than half of what they are worth, and then use them to buy movie tickets on Fandango.com.  That's not a bad deal.

2012

The girls and I just sat for over 2 hours and watched this movie.  The special effects were pretty awesome, but I spent a majority of the movie saying, "yeah, like that would ever happen".  I mean, the limo racing down the street as it collapses behind them.  The plane just making between the falling buildings.  I mean, I know it's a movie, but I just found the whole thing a little unbelievable.  In fact, it reminded me a lot of another movie, Deep Impact.  They too built "arcs" for those selected to survive.

The girls liked it, and I guess I did, too.  I just don't think it's one of those movies I would watch again and again.

Time To Say Goodbye To The VCR

Yes, you read that right.  I still own a working VCR.  In fact, we have two of them, and they are both very, very old.  I also have a cabinet full of VCR tape movies.  A lot of them I now own on DVD also, but for some reason, I am having a hard time getting rid of them.

You know what else I love about this site?  They sell video games, both new and used.  I was looking at their wii games and Playstation2 games (the two systems we own) and found a couple of games the kids would love, at very reasonable prices.  I think I found somewhere to do a little Christmas shopping.

Eclipse

I guess the big question today is have you seen the movie yet?

No, I was not one of the fanatics who went to a midnight show last night.  I do, however, plan on seeing it this weekend with the girls.  I was wondering, though, if it is too scary for Brandi (she's 8) to see.  I know they have the big fight scene between Edward and Victoria, and watching the previews, this one looks 'darker' than the first two.  I don't want to take her and then deal with nightmares for a week.

Drag Me To Hell

Kasi and I were both excited to watch this movie, and judging by the title, we thought it was going to be scary.

We were wrong.  It had a few "make you jump" moments, but it was mostly gross.  And predictable.  In fact, at one point in the middle of the movie, I turned to Kasi and told her exactly how the movie would end.

And I was right.  To sum it up...Christine works at a bank, and an old woman comes in to ask for an extension on her mortgage.  Christine makes the decision to deny her, so the old woman puts a curse on her.  Christine spends the rest of the movie trying to figure out how to remove the curse.  That's about it.

If you are a horror movie fan like Kasi and I, you might enjoy this movie.  If you are not a big fan of this genre, I would suggest skipping it altogether.

The History Of Horror Movies According To Kasi

There are times when my kids do things that just reinforce that they are my children.

Did you follow that?

Let me explain.  I love scary movies.  I have ever since I was a kid.  I have great memories of watching Dawn of the Dead, and Night of the Living Dead with my dad.  Weird, I know, but true.  The only movie that ever scared me, I mean really scared me, was the original Halloween.  I still cringe whenever I hear that music.  The thing of it is, unlike other horror movies, this one had a believable storyline.  I'm not talking about the end, where Michael comes back to life. The scene that scared me the most was when Laurie looks out the window, and Michael is standing across the road, by the tree.  A second later, she looks out again, and he is gone.  Seriously, I still get freaked just thinking about it.  Babysitting was never the same for me after that movie, I can tell you that. 

Kasi shares my love of horror films.  Whenever a scary movie comes on one of the movie channels, we turn out the lights and watch together.  Most of the time, we have our eyes covered, because let's face it, the movies made today are a lot gorier than the ones I grew up watching.  Anyway, Kasi had to a "The History Of..." project for English class, and she chose horror movies.

Yes, she is definitely my kid.  The fun thing about this is that she had to start with old horror films, so she asked me which were some of my favorites from way back when.  Of course, the first to pop into my head was Night of the Living Dead.  I mean, who can forget the old, "They're coming for you, Barbara"?  I wanted her to be able to watch it, so we planned a trip to the library to see if they had a copy we could borrow.

No such luck.  Ryan suggested that we look for free movies online, and sure enough, I found it.  In fact, I found a ton of old horror movies, some of which I have never heard of.   I am looking forward to watching some of them, though.

This site also had other types of movies, from comedy to westerns, and several different television shows.  The best part is that you can watch for free, which is great, because I am cheap.

I know what Kasi and I will be doing for the next couple of weekends - watching horror movies.  I mean, it's considered research.  Right?

Date Night Opens Friday!

Looks funny, right? From watching the trailer above, and others I have seen on television, it looks like they have pretty good chemistry onscreen. They have a similar sense of humor, I think, which should make for a pretty funny movie. There is one part, where a bad guy pulls a gun on them, and Steve Carell starts freaking out, screaming about it being a kill shot. Hysterical. I am hoping the rest of the movie is just as funny!

You should plan a date night with your husband, and go check out this movie. Just don't steal someone elses dinner reservation on the way.

Alvin And The Chipmunks ~ The "Squeakquel"

I remember when the first Alvin and the Chipmunks movie came out a few years ago. My kids begged me to take them to see it, but we waited until it was on one of the movie channels before seeing it. I was a little hesitant to sit and watch it myself. I mean, it was a movie about chipmunks. Now, whenever it is on, even if the kids are not home, I will watch it. It's a cute, funny movie my whole family enjoyed.

The begging started again when the "squeakquel" hit theaters, but again, I didn't take them. I know, I'm a cheap mommy who would rather buy the movie for the same amount of money I would spend taking them to the theater. Movie tickets are expensive these days! Now that the kids know that the movie will be out on March 30, the begging has begun again. They want the double DVD pack, which includes "The Squeak Along" Bonus Disc, that has more music, mayhem and all-new singalongs. And if you know my family, you know we love to sing along!

How cool is that! She is saying "this website is totally awesome", although it doesn't quite sound like that. My kids are going to have a ball making their own chipmunks, too.

I plan on getting my own copy of this movie, as well as the first one. I can pre-order the "squeakquel" and buy it now, making sure that I get a copy. I think this movie will be the perfect addition to Brandi's Easter basket.

I Want To See This Movie!

Steve Carell and Tina Fey...together...this movie has got to be funny! I think if I start now, I can convince Junior to take me to see it.

Seems Like Old Times

I love a good Chevy Chase movie, and this has got to be one of my favorites. He plays the ex-husband of Glenda (played by Goldie Hawn) , and he is wrongly accused of robbing a bank. Running from the police, he finds himself hiding in Glenda's garage. She knows he is there, and she is trying to hide him from her attorney husband (played by Charles Grodin).

An attorney herself, she wants to help prove his innocence, and let me tell you, between the dogs and the hired help (kids in trouble that she has defended), she has her hands full. I laugh through the entire movie, every time I see it.

I was only eight years old when it was made, which is hard to believe. But it just goes to show that a good movie is a good movie, no matter how old it is.

The Final Destination

I admit it...I am a horror movie junkie. I love all the bloody gory stuff. My only thing is that I can only watch each movie one time. If I know what's coming, it loses something. Except the SAW movies. I have to watch those a couple of time to figure out what the hell they are all about, although the last one...I think it was the 5th one...explained everything dealing with the first 4 pretty nicely.

The other day I watched the 4th Final Destination movie. Unfortunately, I didn't see it in 3D, but I could see where those effects would have made the movie even more disgusting. I have seen the first three, and to be honest, I really liked them. I actually saw the third one before the first two because it just happened to be on television one day. I think that one is my favorite.

This one wasn't bad. I liked how they showed a lot of premonitions, and not all of them came true. And, as usual, all the main characters, who thought they had cheated death, were killed in the last few seconds of the movie.

For all of you horror movie fans, make sure to check this one out. Especially if you have seen the others in this series.

The Proposal

This is the best chick flick I have seen in a while. Sandra Bullock stars as Margaret, an uptight book editor, who finds herself in quite the predicament...she is being deported. Here solution is to get married. To her assistant. Who didn't see it coming.

Ryan Reynolds plays Andrew, the assistant. He agrees to go along with this crazy (and illegal) scheme as long as Margaret agrees to promote him to an editor. To prove to the immigration officer that they are serious, they head to Alaska to announce their engagement to Andrews family.

There were plenty of moments in this movie that had me cracking up. There is one part where Margaret and Andrew's grandmother, played by Betty White, were chanting in the woods, and holy crap...I was hysterical! Oh, and then when Margaret and Andrew start singing "It Takes Two To Make A Thing Go Right"...I seriously almost peed my pants. It was so funny!

I had to pay to rent this movie on Charter, but it was so worth it. In fact, I think I might add this to my dvd collection in the near future!

The Hangover

Most of you know that I have two favorite movies, and they couldn't be more different. I love The Princess Bride, and have ever since the first time I saw it. I remember one time in high school, my parents took my younger sisters and my brother out of town, and my older sister and I were left home alone for the first time. I was working at McDonald's at the time, and one of the nights they were gone I worked the closing shift. A bunch of us who worked there thought it would be fun to walk from the restaurant to my house, which was a couple of miles, at 12:30am in the pouring rain. No umbrellas, no jackets, no nothing.

Needless to say, by the time we made it to my house, we were soaked! We all went in and put on clean clothes, and being the rebels we were, we watched The Princess Bride. I know, you can't believe how wild we got! My parents are out of town and we watched a freakin' movie! lol!

Anywho, my second favorite movie is The 40 Year Old Virgin. I don't think you can get much further away from The Princess Bride than that. This was the one thing that Junior bought me to make my boob surgery recovery a little easier. I must have watched that movie a hundred times.

So, seeing as how I like that kind of humor, I was sure I would love The Hangover. My sister said it was great, and I have to agree. There were times when I really did laugh out loud. The part where the Chinese guy jumps, naked, out of the trunk and wraps his legs around the other guys neck...I was hysterical. Or when they found the baby in the cabinet...too funny.

If you don't like crude kind of humor, you may want to pass on this movie. All you other guys, check this movie out. It is definitely worth 100 minutes of your life.

REIN: The Rejuvenator

Karma. Have you ever wondered where that word came from, and how it came to be? I am not sure what the official definition of that word is, but I believe it means that the things you do in life affect the things that happen to you. For instance, if you are mean to someone, then someone else will be mean to you, and so on and so on. The same can go for doing something nice for someone.

There is a movie about Karma, and reincarnation. It's called REIN:The Rejuvenator. This movie tells the story of how REIN came into his powers of reincarnation, and how him and two others (the twins) can make the decisions about the future of peoples souls. When Rein one decides to pass his powers to someone else, they all have to help the next Rein learn how to do the job. From what I read about this movie, it sounds interesting, although it is not something I believe in myself. But, that's the thing about movies. You don't always have to believe everything you see, but you can still enjoy a good storyline.

Hey Now, You're A Rockstar!

Remember me complaining last week about how much I hate Thursday night television?

Tonight I remedied the situation by listening to some movies while I blog. Yes, I said listening, because with my new desk setup, my back is to the television. Normally, I would pop my earphones in and listen to some music, which is fine for dropping ecards, but when I need to concentrate, music is out.

Trust me...there have been times I typed lyrics instead of what I was supposed to be writing. Yes, I am that easily distracted.

So right now I am listening to Shrek. I really do like this movie. It has enough adult in it to make it enjoyable. I wish I could say the same for the second and the third, but I didn't really enjoy those.

Introducing all the new characters was unnecessary, in my opinion. Sure, Puss In Boots, was cute, but I wish they had just stuck with the original characters. I mean, Donkey can carry a scene all by himself.

Sometimes it's best not to make sequels, and in my opinion, this is one movie that should have stood alone.

Who's Your Jake Ryan?

I am sitting here listening to Sixteen Candles, and all of a sudden it hit me.

Jake Ryan!

The boy we all wished would whisk us away on our 16th birthday.
Well, we as in all of us born in the 80's.

Then there is the modern day Jake Ryan, aka Hannah Montana's television boyfriend.

I knew the first time I heard his name it sounded familiar, and now I know why.

So tell me, who is your Jake Ryan?

The dark haired, mysterious Jake Ryan of our day, or the blond haired, stuck up Jake Ryan of today?

I think I'd take dark and mysterious any day.

The Ugly Truth

Abby is a control freak.

Mike is a crass, hold nothing back kind of guy.

Put the two together, and I am telling you, I was laughing hysterically at some points in this movie. I love Katherine Heigl (no, I have never watched Grey's) and I was not disappointed with this movie.

There was one point where Abby is on a date at a ball game, and Mike is talking into her earpiece, telling her what to say and do. The scene ends with Abby on the big screen, trying to get a spill out of her date's crotch.

Too funny!

I would definitely recommend this movie to all my "chick flick" loving friends.
