I got this email the other day. It said, and I quote,
I was wondering if you would be interested in placing links from reputable
retailers on your site. Please get back to me if you are interested.
So I email this chick back, and say,
It depends on what the links are, and what type of compensation I would get for
doing so.
A few hours later, I got this reply,
Thanks so much for getting back to me! I was wondering if you would be interested in posting a few links on your website directing to (I refuse to say the link)? In return we will provide you with a discount code that you can share with your readers.
I replied that I would need to be paid for doing a post, and quoted my rates.
I haven't heard back from her. Am I wrong to think that coupon codes for my readers is not compensation for me? Did I word my original response wrong? Was I wrong to request payment? I am new to all of this, and don't want to put off companies who want to work with me, but I am not going to do it for free, either.
What would you have done?

Coupon codes are NOT compensation, end of story for them!
Your blog is prime real estate, and you deserve to be compensated properly! :)
Storm ~ I agree. It just surprised me that when I stood up for my blog, she didn't respond. Not even a "no thank you", when she was the one who contacted me. I find that rude.
Hi Jenn,
I had a similar request. I checked out the link and it was for a shopping site. So far so good.
Then, when it came down to being paid for it she didn't respond. I guess everyone thinks everything is for free?!
No payment - no link.
I have received a similar request, and I responded almost exactly as you did. Also, I haven't heard anything back yet. So, I don't know if it is some sort of spam scam, but the more I think about it, the more it just doesn't feel right.
It was unprofessional for her not to at least respond. Shake it off and don't let it bug you.
Watch out for gstracker002@gmail.com. This guy had me write a post on garage sales and flea markets and I never got paid. The link was mylinkassis at garagesalestracer dot com
He owes me $20. grrr
Duni ~ this was for a popular shopping site, so I was hopeful. It surprised me that they wanted links for free...they should know better.
FishHawk ~ right? These people seek us out to try and take advantage...not cool at all.
Karen ~ I did a toy review a while back and the guy was late in paying me, but eventually I got paid. I have found that the more legitimate companies offer to pay you up front. I guess it's a gamble when working with new people.
Thanks for the heads up. I will watch for that address.
