Imagine this:
You enter your local Taco Bell.
You order $20 worth of food, three of those items are taco salads.
You wait a good ten minutes for them to assemble your order, which is fine, because you like your salads a certain way, with things on the side, and you completely understand that it takes a little longer to have it made special.
During these ten minutes, there are no other customers in the store, but the drive thru is pretty busy.
Your meal is finally put on the counter, and the cashier looks at you and says,
"Oh, I forgot, we ran out of sporks on Christmas Eve." And then she just stands there staring at you.
Um, okay. So you ask, "how are we supposed to eat our taco salads?"
She walks away to ask the manager, who says she will send one of the crew to another store to get some.
Um, okay. So what are you supposed to do? Wait an hour while they run to another store?
No. So you ask that the manager come to the front to speak to you, and when she walks up, she says that she will send a crew member to the grocery store across the street to get forks as soon as he is finished making the drive thru food.
Um, okay. And in the meantime? What are you supposed to do?
"You can have a seat with your food and we will send out forks as soon as he gets back."
Um, okay. So you say, "you want us to sit and let our food get cold while you finish making orders, then run to the store to get forks so we can eat said food?"
She just looks at you.
You ask for my money back, and she looked confused. You tell her, very politely, that you already waited ten minutes for your food, which was plenty of time for her to have sent someone to the store across the street for forks. OR, when you were ordering, the cashier should have mentioned that they had no forks, and you would have left to go somewhere else.
The manager does finally refund your money, but with no apologies. In fact, she didn't say one word. Talk about RUDE!
Now, had she said "have a seat, and as soon as we get some forks I'll remake your salads so they are hot for you", you probably would have sat and waited.
Instead, you walk out, money in hand, shaking your head. You go to a Taco Bell across town, and pay more because apparently this other Taco Bell is not owned by the same people, and they keep their prices higher.
This is a true story. It took place around 1:37 pm on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at our local Taco Bell. I wish I had noticed actual names, because I would have totally called them out.

actually there is a taco bell near us that ALWAYS gets the order wrong. It's a long standing joke. I always get mad so finally one day I wrote the company on their website. They sent me a gift card for the cost of my meal.
That is why I always keep a couple of spare sporks in my truck...you guys should too. You never know when you might be in need of a spork!
Sandi ~ we don't usually go to this one...we just happened to have been on that side of town. I was more shocked that they didn't offer to remake our food so it would be hot. They seriously expected us to just wait and then eat cold food. And I know it sounds crazy because it was salads, but for me, the meat needs to be hot. Cold beef is not good. I didn't even think about going to their website. Maybe I will.
Mike ~ that's not a bad idea :)
I don't doubt thats a true story, happens alot around here. I blame the 17-20 year old managers. No ppl or life skills at all.
I'd actually be surprised if Taco Bell got my order RIGHT! I can't remember a good experience I've had there... but its been a while, too.
Miranda ~ you are so right...they can't get experienced people to work for the crappy pay, so we have to deal with idiots who don't know how to interact with the public.
Jennie ~ if I didn't love their taco salads, we would go to Del Taco. They are so much better than Taco Bell, and cheaper, too.
Hahahaa....what Mike said...I had to stop a minute to think what a spork might be!Hahaaa...sorry, hanging head in shame...
Contact the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. If Enough people would DO this, things would change at these rip off businesses!
hughugs
Actually we have had good experiences with our Taco Bell. What you should do is log on to the franchise blog and make a complaint. You should get some free coupons.
Last time I went there, I was there only because they have Mountain Dew, which is what my son wanted, so that's where we went. I went through the drive thru. First, they gave me the wrong order, then they forgot to give me the drink, and I forgot to ask since I usually don't order drinks, so I wasn't very pleased with them. Neither was my son. No Mountain Dew!
We had taco bell the other night because I didn't feel like fixing dinner. My food has never been hot and Roy asked for no tomatoes and they were there. They always mess up.
Today I was out running around and stopped at Subway and had both of our sandwiches toasted... they weren't hot either. Sounds like we eat out a lot, we really don't, but I don't think I have ever eaten fast food hot before. It will be interesting to see what happens with this.
Oh, there would TOTALLY be a letter written to their corporate office AND I'd go BACK to the Taco Bell just to get names!
It's a sure-fire way to get results!
Miss Donna ~ I will have to look into doing that.
Russ ~ the one we usually go to is awesome...this one, we will never go back to. I did end up going to their website and complaining. I even left a link to this post.
Diana ~ I remember growing up in NY we used to love going there because they were the only fast food place that served Dr. Pepper. Now we go because I love their taco salads.
Dawn ~ I will always bring the food back if they make it wrong...me and the girls are very picky eaters, and we always order specials. This place had our food right, they just had awful customer service. AWFUL.
Oh, and I love toasted subs at subway! Especially if it's on the 9 grain honey oat bread...yum!
Stacey ~ I ended up complaining on their website, leaving a link to this post. maybe if they see that I am spreading the word, and that all of these commenters have had bad experiences as well, something will be done.
Taco Bell apparently does not train their employees about customer service. I had a bad experience at my local TB and did not go back for like 5 years... until I was sure the staff had turned over.
Janiss ~ I know that most fast food places have issues with customer service, but I have never had a problem at TB before...I'll never go back to this store, either.
That would just piss me off to the point I would look at her and tell her I wanted the name of the general manager and franchise owner and I wanted her first and last name. I always like to make people stress a little, lol
Man, that would have really put me into a foul mood. ERGH!!
Vicki ~ I think we were in shock that she was so unapologetic, so I didn't think to get her name. I should have.
Kristin ~ if we weren't already headed to the other side of town where there was another TB, I would have been madder.
Petula ~ you're right...it seems customer service is no longer required to work with the public. It's sad.
WOW! Bad customer service really stinks!
The Coupon Sista ~ it sure does!
That manager had no manager skills. As soon as they knew that they were out of sporks someone should of been going to get some. You said they ran out on the 24th this was the 26th. What the heck. You should of had your food free for just having to wait 10 minutes. Customer service is really bad anymore.
