How Many People Does It Take?

Yesterday morning I took Ryan to the doctor's office. He had a cold for a week, that settled in his chest and he was coughing pretty bad. We saw the NP (nurse practitioner), who is super nice. Anyway, she thought it might be allergies, but wanted to check his white cell levels just to be sure it wasn't an infection. As soon as Ryan hears the word prick, he starts crying. I tell him it will only hurt for a second and then it willl be over. He didn't want to hear any of that. When the nurse came in to do it, he refused to give her his finger. I told him if he didn't do it I was going to get Junior out of the car to come hold him down."Go ahead" he says to me. BIG mistake.I go get Junior, and he and I and the one nurse try to hold him down. No luck. At almost 12 he weighs 110 pounds and is extremely strong. I should also mention he is screaming at the top of his lungs like a 2 year old girl. This brings in 2 more nurses. Pamela, who is super nice and did my pregnancy test with Boo, we've known forever, and Jennifer, who we have also known forever. At this point, Ryan is trying to hide behind the table, so Pamela goes over to hug him. After a minute she looks at me and says-"Can I?"To which I reply, "Absolutely. Do what you have to do."It took FIVE of us to hold him down just to prick his finger. We finally managed to get him on his stomach on the table, Jennifer and Pamela each had a leg, I had an arm, Junior had his other arm and the nurse I didn't know was trying to pry open his fist. Finally Junior took the lancet and did it himself. Keep in mind, Ryan is SCREAMING the whole time. When it was all over, Junior was sitting on the floor, and all us girls were sweating. Jennifer said she couldn't believe how strong he is. They all file out of the room, and Junior is now in tears cause he hurt his back trying to get Ryan still. So............There was no infection, and it is allergies. He is now on a nasal spray, an antihistimine cough syrup, and Claritin. And.......Junior ended up in the ER with his back. He now has nerve problems to go along with his disk problems. They put him on a new medicine and Flexeril. He has to take Calcium with Vitamin D, and can't take Advil with these medicines. He is also out of work for 2 nights (last night and tonight) and on restricted duty for 10 days once he goes back. Unfortunately, he only has 4 hours of sick time right now. He will get 8 hours holiday pay for Monday, but that still comes up 4 hours short on his next check. Since every penny counts, that's a hit on us. But, we always muddle through somehow. Thank God his 2 medicines were both $4 scripts at Wal-Mart, so that was good.Okay. I've written enough for now. Think good thoughts for Junior's back!!
