When I found out I was pregnant with Ryan, I immediately wanted a girl. I had just always assumed that I would have daughters, because I was not at all interested in sports or I wasn't tomboyish in any way. I could not see myself as the mother of a son.
The moment I held him, all of that was gone. I looked into those gorgeous blue eyes, and knew that I was given the most precious gift. At that moment, sex didn't matter. I was a mom, and he was my child. I loved him from the moment of conception, and that was only reinforced the day he was born.
Junior, however, wanted a son from day one. He was elated when they told us he was going to be a boy. He was excited about all the things he could teach him, and all the things they would do together. Now, thirteen years later, father and son have a wonderfully close relationship. Junior has taught Ryan how to fish, and how to work on cars. They share a love of racing, and enjoy spending time together. Whenever Junior gets in the car to go do something, Ryan is right there with him. I know that not all kids get to grow up with their dads, and that I am lucky that I chose a great man to be my kids father.
When Ryan was younger, we encouraged him to play with toys that required his imagination. From an early age, he loved his matchbox cars. To this day, he still plays with them. He has over 300, and he can go to the store and pick out one he doesn't yet have. I found an online store that sells Exceptional Toys For Boys. All these toys require kid power, not batteries, so they encourage kids to use their imaginations. The store was started by a stay at home dad, who wanted to play with his son, Carl, with toys that are eco-friendly. These wooden toys are fun for kids and adults, too.

I love hearing about great dads who enjoy their children. I was fortunate to have one like that myself and actually wrote a book in his memory about him after he died. It's wonderful that your husband takes an interest in teaching your son skills. I wish my husband's father would have done that with him.
We are just opposite though because IF I were ever pregnant, I'd definitely want boys rather than girls. I can't stand the whining, prissiness or manipulation which most girls seem to enjoy. Give me rough housing or video games any day instead.
