I am hoping someone can explain this to me, because it happens everywhere I go. Well, everywhere they sell cold drinks. We go into the grocery store, and as we are checking out, the cooler full of Cokes looks so inviting. I will usually grab a diet whatever, and be on my way. I usually pay about $1.50 for said diet whatever. Not twenty feet away, right by the exit doors, are the Vending Machines. These vending machines offer the same selection, the same size bottles (or cans), and are just as cold, if not colder, then the one I just bought. Yet the Vending machine beverage is about $.50 cheaper than the one I just bought at the checkout. Why do I keep buying the one at the checkout? I have no idea.
The people who manage the Vending Machine Business must get their drinks at a great price, and therefor can offer them to us customers at a lower price. I bet they make a ton of money, too. I have seen vending machine routes for sale in our local paper, and they all claim to bring in thousands of dollars. Junior and I really should look into starting our own vending business, because we could use a couple of thousand dollars.

Strange indeed. I don't drink pop so I've actually never noticed machines at the cash out or at the door on the way out. Sorry can't answer your question, but plan to keep an eye peeled when I'm next out shopping.

Have a good day TGIF
swing by for a visit, the welcome mats always out
I think in the case the store owner is not too bright. Those vending machines are bought by people like you and I who want to make some money and place them for a fee in a place of business. The perfect place for a vending machine like that is office buildings and places where there is no competition for the same product. Very strange, but you're right in that you may as well just buy it from the machine. The store owner not only charges more for the same product but is also receiving money/rent from the vending machine owner who is offering the same product at a lower price. I'd rather give my $$$ to the vending machine owner.
Great post.
You keep doing it because we are creatures of habit... and we like instant gratification. So next time try to remember to wait a couple more minutes and drop your money into the machine instead of paying more... it will soon become the habit.
The stores charge more because they can! Those displays are called Point Of Purchase displays because they have done research and know that most people waiting in line will see a product and buy it on impulse. You're usually paying a higher price... so try to resist those impulse buys. I know it's hard.. I try not to even look! LOL... instead try reading the stupid headlines on the rag mags while you wait... they're at least good for a laugh.
