Most people have a story behind why they love Grandfather clocks. It's always about a long lost loved one who had one in their home, and now, whenever you hear or see a Grandfather clock, you think of that person fondly. I have no such memories. My mother didn't get a Grandfather clock until I was in my twenties and married. And to be honest? The chimes got on my nerves whenever we went to her house. Eventually, I got used to it, and found the chiming could be soothing.

It's weird that I now want a
grandfather clock for my home. The one I love is the
Howard Miller Majestic II Grandfather Clock. It's that one in the picture. I love how it has the little curio type shelves along the sides. Those of you who know me well, know that I am picturing in my head which elephants will fit in there perfectly.
Now, let me tell you. When I was trying to
find a clock that would match my home and personality, I was shocked at some of the clocks I saw. There are clocks made of stainless and glass, and some very contemporary looking stick and circle clocks that I was surprised to see classified as Grandfather clocks. They certainly are not what I think of when I think of Grandfather clocks, but I will say, some of them were pretty cool looking.
I am sure that I will find the perfect clock for me, though I don't think I will find one I like more than the one pictured.
