Changing Tastes

As I get older, I am finding that my taste in certain things is changing. For instance, I used to live on bland food. I never used herbs or spices, and I never tried new things. Then one day, I decided that the worst that could happen was that I wouldn't like it, so I started trying all kinds of new foods. And you know what happened? I liked most of the things I tried. Sure, there were a few that were totally gross, but that was okay. It was worth it to find the other hundred things that were delicious.

I am finding that my taste in furniture is also changing. I still like simple, clean lines; it's the pieces of furniture I want now that I find funny. I never used to think twice about the accessory type things, like tables and clocks. For instance, the last house we lived in had a huge living room. Even with my entertainment center, which is huge, and all the couches, chairs, and end tables, the room still looked empty. I started looking for some type of side table to put on the wall by the front door, and was blown away by the selection, and prices, that I found. The one I ended up with was perfect.

Now I want a grandfather clock. In the past, I always associated grandfather clocks with old people. I know now that that's not true at all. The problem I am having, though, is that I don't want one that is too ornate. Like I said, I like simple, clean lines. I found this clock at www.1-800-4clocks.com, and it is exactly what I am looking for. The design along the top matches the top of my entertainment center, so it will fit in the room perfectly. It's a Howard Miller Grandfather clock, so it comes with a limited warranty.

I am going to wait until we move to make sure we have room in the new place before adding furniture to our collection. We're a bit crowded as it is, but hopefully the new place will be bigger than this one.

Clocks

My mom is a big fan of clock. She has a house full of them, and it drives me a little nuts when they all start chiming at the same time. I guess after a while you would get used to it, because she says she barely notices it anymore. She has several mantle clocks and a grandfather clock.

I have always wanted an Anniversary clock. I think they are beautiful. A few years ago for Christmas, a family friend gave Junior and I one as a gift. I love it. It sits on the hutch I inherited from my Grandmother.

Now I want a grandfather clock. The one I covet has curio cabinets down each side. I can picture my elephant collection displayed proudly. I know I can not fit one where we live now, but when we move, that will be on the top of my wish list. Finding it on sale would be a blessing, because I know how expensive they can be.

These days people have so many different devices that can tell them what time it is. Cell phones, computers, mp3 players and other electronics are making clocks unnecessary. I sit her at the computer for a good part of every day, and I still continuously look at the clock on the wall, even though my computer displays the time. For me, clocks will always be a part of my home.

Finding The Perfect Clock

Most people have a story behind why they love Grandfather clocks. It's always about a long lost loved one who had one in their home, and now, whenever you hear or see a Grandfather clock, you think of that person fondly. I have no such memories. My mother didn't get a Grandfather clock until I was in my twenties and married. And to be honest? The chimes got on my nerves whenever we went to her house. Eventually, I got used to it, and found the chiming could be soothing.

It's weird that I now want a grandfather clock for my home. The one I love is the Howard Miller Majestic II Grandfather Clock. It's that one in the picture. I love how it has the little curio type shelves along the sides. Those of you who know me well, know that I am picturing in my head which elephants will fit in there perfectly.

Now, let me tell you. When I was trying to find a clock that would match my home and personality, I was shocked at some of the clocks I saw. There are clocks made of stainless and glass, and some very contemporary looking stick and circle clocks that I was surprised to see classified as Grandfather clocks. They certainly are not what I think of when I think of Grandfather clocks, but I will say, some of them were pretty cool looking.

I am sure that I will find the perfect clock for me, though I don't think I will find one I like more than the one pictured.
