It's been a week since Brandi started at her new school. The first day was rough, but she is loving it now. We stayed in the same district, but what I didn't realize was that we had moved her into a school that is mostly black and Mexican kids. I don't have a problem with this, but she is finding it hard to make friends. A lot of the kids speak Spanish, and Brandi has no idea what they are saying. She also says the black kids kind of hang out with each other.
I can not believe that at eight years old these kids are already divided based on color. I have taught my kids that it is wrong to judge people by the color of their skin. They know that evil comes in all colors, and that it is a person's behavior that speaks to who they are on the inside. Brandi has a huge heart, and wants to be friends with everyone. I wish everyone wanted to be friends with her, too.
Now, don't get me wrong. She has made some friends. In fact, she came home the first day with notes in her book bag from girls in her class claiming that she is now their best friend. I loved that. She also talks to her bff Sarah everyday after school. She misses her so bad. I have got to get them together for a play date, just as soon as I finish unpacking.
If I ever finish unpacking....

Moving is always hard: packing, unpacking, making friends. Just give it some time. Congratulations on your new home!
