I made these for the party Friday night. I'm not sure if I am going to put them out for the kids, or have a secret stash for the adults. Or I might just save them all for myself! lol! I am having a lot of fun making these chocolates. I just wish that the chocolate wasn't so expensive. A package cost me almost $4 at Walmart, and it only made these 12 or so pretzels. (I don't know the exact number, and I'm too tired to get up and look in the fridge) I know I am going to get some for Christmas, too. I am thinking homemade chocolates would make great teacher gifts, especially if I let the kids help make them.

Jenn- I'm not sure what sort of chocolate you're using, but if you want a way to stretch it- My family has made chocolate buckeyes (peanut butter balls) for 3 generations and we dip them in chocolate chips melted over a double boiler and we use a tiny bit of parafin wax in with the chocolate.
It helps the chocolate be perfectly smooth and shiny and thins it out, I make dozens and dozens off one bag of chips.
Parafin wax can be found right next to the canning jars in the grocery store or Walmart. :)

Jenn- the chips melt without it, but it is sort of grainy like and not at all attractive (tasty but lumpy and weird). The wax thins it out and makes them smooth and shiny like hand dipped stuff you see in the shops. :)

Not sure if this is a help but on a recent cookery programme they were running through endless possibilities with Nutella. Rather than mixing it in they were using little dollops amd baking so that you get a soft centre of chocolate. I've bought some Nutella but haven't yet put it to the test in baking.

Kloggers/Polly ~ do you mean just putting drops on a cookie sheet and baking them? That would be awesome. I actually have some in my pantry, and would love to try that.

Hey Jenn, What Tara was talking about, those buckeyes are to DYE for. I have never made them, but I have had them !!!!!! Get that recipe from her. My mom's friend, before they moved to Florida, made them at Christmas. They make a great Christmas gift and they are oh, so gooooddddd !!! :)
Hey Dawn (and Jenn!) I make boxes and boxes of the buckeyes before the holidays and give them as gifts. They are especially great for last minute people you didn't think you'd need a gift for.
They can be frozen- so it's easy to make a bunch of batches. The kids do it with me, we dedicate a weekend to it. Maybe I should blog it when we get closer to Christmas time?....
Yes, Tara, you should blog about it ! I know all about the buckeyes, don't have the recipe, and never have made them. But, I do know how good they are !! LOL Yes, they do make a good, last minute gift. You can buy those holiday tins almost anywhere. Great gift for teachers, etc. I think I will make them this year for neighbors and friends !! :) But, I do need the recipe ! Thanks in advance !!
