Who's Your Inspiration?

It's 1996. The Olympic games are being held in Atlanta. Keri Strug does her vault. America gets the gold. I remember watching this event, live and in sports clips on the news, and being amazed at the discipline of these young athletes. They spend much of their days training, focused totally on their goals. Watching these young women accomplish what they set their minds to inspired me to do the same. Granted, it wasn't my dream to win an Olympic gold metal, but I was inspired none the less. I set goals for myself. I learned new things. I put a little more effort into everything I did. These days, if I find myself uninspired, there are always online sports videos to watch to get me motivated again. SportsVids is a great place to find sports videos. I found this amazing slide show of current Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson.
She is another athlete who is inspiring, not only to me, but to my children as well. She is a young lady who accomplished her dream of going to the Olympics. These days, celebrities are such bad role models for kids. I would much rather have my kids have pictures of these amazing athletes hanging on the walls in their bedrooms, and watching sports vids online, than looking up to young women who have no morals.
