Junior started his new job today. This mew schedule gives him weekends off. I told him the other day that since he is now off on weekends, I want to start going to church. He said he would go, but we can not agree on what type of church to go to.
I grew up in a Baptist church, and want to find one down here that is similar to the one I grew up in...not too big, good youth programs, lots of socialization. Junior, who never really went to church, and who has been against going for as long as we've been married, wants to go to a Church Of God. I don't want to go to a church where they hoot and holler, talking in tongues. Now, I am in no way saying there is anything wrong with that, I just wouldn't feel comfortable in that kind of church. I also think that since I have more experience in church, that we should go with what I believe. I also know that I will not give in on this. How wrong is it that I would rather not go to church at all than go to anything but a Baptist church?

Just my 2 cents, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to go to a Baptist Church. But I wouldn't worry about denominations or names (though I'm not into taking up serpents or babbling incoherently either), I go to 2 churches, both non-denominational (one liberal and one conservative). Remember how Paul pointed out how the followers where wrong to say "I'm of Paul or I'm of Apollos etc". I think the important thing is Jesus taught from the Bible, someplace both you and your spouse feel comfortable together with a childrens ministry etc. that supports your faith. Just my opinion, I don't think it is the name of the church that matters. Now your advice! Do you have any suggestions how to get my kids to come to church without a battle? My 18 year old daughter is coming around, but my 13 year old daughter and 9 year old son are a different story. My wife and I grew up unchurched and have been going for less than a year and want our kids to join us.
I grew up with my parents sending us kids to church with my grandparents every Sunday. I have a lot of issues with this that I don't want to get into right now...email me...elephantlady777 at yahoo and we'll discuss more.
Ok, I hear ya about the baptist church and I am all for that but what kind of friend would I be if I didn't beg ya to come to ours one sunday!
As you know I grew up in the town your in and I have attend probably ever church that side of Sptbg. and once we went to this church, Redeemer, I was in awe.
Its young and there is something for everyone. Noone is a number! Everyone cares about everyone!Theres no falling down acting crazy, dancing with snakes, lol. Its teaching is straight from the bible. You don't have a pastor who bad mouths other churches for 2 hours every sunday and theres no alter calls and jumping up and crying fits that scare the kids, and me, lol.
His sermons are great and if you go to the website below you can listen to them for free!
The website also tells you about the times of services-church at 9:45(i like not having to get up at the crack of dawn!), Sunday school to follow!
OH and the kids there are tons without being too many. I think we may have more girls than boys and they are Brandis and Kasis age!
Alexs group of boys are very tight! Theres about 10 of them! One of our great friends, Dave, who is also an elder, teaches the Juniors (Alexs class) Ryan would mesh very well!
We have Kidzone on Wednesday nights and this could be something the kids would like to try out and see what they think. Its from 3:30-5:30. They feed them a snack and sing and learn. I have sat in on the classes and its so neat what they learn in a short amount of time. It sticks with Alex.
For example they learned the word Diligent and how God wants us to be diligent in all we do. So we were talking about how he was doing homework (when he was in public school) and he looked at me and said, "I know Mom, God wants me to be diligent in all that I do. I am on it right now!"
I had forgot about this one part of Kidzone, days earlier but it stuck with him!!!
Its just really an awesome church.

If you check it out and find its not your flavor its ok, I still think the world of ya and wouldn't think any less! I just wanted to put this out there for ya and hope you guys will join us one day there!!!
I would think that since going to church in the first place was your idea, and you have had more ties to a church than he has, that he would be willing to go with you. I can see why you wouldn't want to go to the Church of God because I feel the same way; however, he may be just doing this knowing that you won't agree so everything will just stay as it is.
Here is what I suggest: Pray first for a sweet spirit when you approach him about it again and explain how strongly you feel about it but let him make the final decision as the head of your home. Pray for God's will in this matter to be done. Submit to him by saying, Perhaps he is just dead set against a Baptist church and perhaps he would be agreeable to another Bible teaching church that isn't Baptist or Church of God. Another option may be just for you and your children to go and let him just pray that one day he will want to join you.
I'm Anglican so the only church I've ever been to is mine. I have no idea what other types of church services are like. Sorry I can't help you out here. :o(
Maybe you could agree to try several before deciding where you'll go to often?
Try finding a non-denominational one that has the things you want, kids programs, etc.
I just started back to church two Sundays ago and I was baptized baptist, and I am going to just a Christian church and I love it. If you read my blog at all there is a post about my first Sunday going back to church and the church I am going to. I would not sit and think one second about what church to go to, He is in all church's, God is everywhere no matter if you believe or not. Just my opinion, I hope I did not offend anyone, and if I did, I hope you get over it soon, and have a blessed day!
