Snake Charmer

On our way to the lake this afternoon, we almost ran over this big, black snake. It was sunning itself in the middle of the road. Of course, Junior stopped so I could get a picture.

And so that he could play with it.

It started out all stretched out.

When it saw Junior get to close, it started scrunching up.

Junior held out his foot, and it got ready to strike.

How awesome is this shot?
Can you tell he has half his body off the ground, ready to get Junior's foot?
He did strike out at Junior three times, but I didn't get any pictures of it. He was too fast. The kids didn't get out of the van, but they were glued to the window watching. Brandi got a little upset when the snake struck out, but we explained that Junior knew the snake wasn't poisonous, and that he knew not to get too close. It was pretty neat to watch the snake go from completely relaxed to ready to fight.
I'm just glad Junior left it where it was. He has a tendency to take these critters home with him, but that's a whole other story.

That's awesome! I love the last picture. We were shopping at the local grocery store earlier this week when a snake slithered right through the front door, under shoppers feet. The adults screamed. The kids ran over to watch it. Craziness!
