The problem with the wheel is that she likes to pee in there. I have no idea why, and I have no idea how to stop her from doing it. The last time we cleaned her cage, i left the wheel off for a few days, soaking it to try and maybe get rid of the pee smell. I was also hoping once she didn't have the wheel to pee in, she would go in her cage, and when I put the wheel back she wouldn't feel the need to pee in there anymore.
I was wrong. So Junior and I bought her a ball so she can get exercise, and I can take the wheel out of her cage permanently.

Today I used a glove of Kasi's and just reached in there and grabbed her. She was not at all happy, but she seemed happy running around the house in her ball. And I mean RUN! She gets that thing going really fast, and she likes to chase your feet. I'm not kidding. If you walk past her, she will change direction and follow you. It really is pretty cute.
Now if I can just figure out how to keep her from pooping in the ball...

Oh, I hate to tell you, but I think they all like to pee in their wheels. We had a male hamster that would pack all his favorite things in there and then pee all over it and run like the dickens!! He was a smelly mess! But I think he liked it that way.
Hamsters need that wheel to run EVERYDAY. Their natural habitat is a 2 mile radius, so putting them in a teeny cage is really kind of mean. That is why they smell--they don't want to pee in their own beds, but they have nowhere else to go. Maybe your little one thinks she's running away from her bed area to pee.
About all you can do it clean her cage often and put down those odor absorbing rocks they sell in the hamster aisle of the pet store.
HAHAHAhhahahaaa.....Omword...how funny.....hughughugs
