Back To Blond ~ What Was I Thinking?

The first time I dyed my hair I was in high school.  My original hair was a dirty blond, but I wanted it blond.  You should see my graduation picture...my hair was almost white.

When I got pregnant with Ryan, I read somewhere that you shouldn't dye your hair, so I didn't the entire pregnancy.  After he was born, I would occasionally put some highlights in it, but for the most part, it went back to my natural, healthy hair.

Until last night.  My friend Donna came over, and she wanted me to highlight her hair.  I pulled it through the cap, and when it came time to mix the dye, we realized that it came with two packs of color.  Somehow, she convinced me to let her do my hair.

You can see it a little in the picture (my hair is a little wet...I just got out of the shower) how blond it is, and I can't decide if I like it or not.  I hate how dried out the dye has my hair right now...it's almost brittle.  Hopefully in a week or so, it will soften up.

At least that's what I'm hoping.  I'm also hoping it won't turn green in the pool this weekend.  I plan on wetting it with the hose before getting in the pool, since that is what many of you suggested I do with Kasi's head.  I hope it works.

Honestly I like it. I do know what you mean about blond and the hair being dry. If you're willing to spend a little extra, Redken has some great hair treatments that will really moisturize the hair. It will give back that softness. The one I use is Smooth Down. It's awesome and it's supposed to last for up to 2 weeks so you don't have to use it every single time you shampoo. I get my hair done all the time and have had dry hair especially after chemo. But that is what helped for me. Biolage has a great moisturizing line of products as well. It's my one splurge for myself. It has given my hair new life. :)

In all honesty, I like it. I also think that we don't "chance" as much as we should...a little change makes us feel good.

That being said, though, I will never forget words my dad (stepdad) said to me after I was preggo and my hair was back to original color
"that is the look of my baby".
Since then I have never felt boring again.

I have to agree with everyone...it looks good. My husband does my touch ups for me because I'd be gray otherwise. I don't think any of my friends would be brave enough to want to put any color on my hair!

And per your comment on my blog... you are my FAVORITE one from the list!

I think it looks GREAT !!! For the dryness, there are many spray leave in conditioners. But, I love it !! :)

I would wet AND put some conditioner in your hair before you go in the water. I worked as a lifeguard/swim instructor for 6 years and that was the only way to keep my hair from drying out and becoming damaged from the chlorine and sun. Your hair looks good, very natural.

What's the Problem with it???!
It brightens you up! I Like it!!!
Infusium23 is a great "leave in" conditioner. It's what I used on my long, highlighted hair...loved it!

Sandi ~ Thanks for the tips! I'm going to look for that the next time I go shopping. It's not as dry today (I've already washed it three times so it's softening up a bit).

Stacey ~ Junior used to do my hair when I dyed the whole thing...I'm not sure I would trust him to pull it through the cap, though.

Terra ~ thanks for the tip! Tonight I just avoided getting my hair wet, but I'm not sure how long I can do that tomorrow with all the kids jumping and splashing around.

Miss Donna ~ I'll have to look for that, too. Thankfully, I don't think there will be many more pool days...the water is already getting a little too chilly for me! lol!

Jenn, I think it looks great! (but then I'm a blonde, so I might be biased, lol) I think it brightens up your face and looks great with your tan. One tip my hair dresser gave me was to add some lemon juice to my regular old shampoo- it stretches the color life a little so you don't have to keep on top of it so often. :)
