Know Your Rights

One of the best things about the kids and I moving to this apartment was that I didn't transfer my phone with us, and I don't have a current home phone.  That means all the collection agencies can no longer call and harass me about old debts.  I wish my ex and I had been more responsible with our finances, but I can not change the past.  The only thing I can do is try to repair the damage that has been done to my credit score, and that is exactly what I have been doing for the past four months.

If you are having a problem with Debt Collections like I was, you have rights.  I was under the assumption that these collection agencies could call me when ever they wanted, as often as they wanted.   After doing a little research online about how to Stop Collection Calls I discovered that there are only certain hours that they can call.  I wish I knew this a year ago when I was getting calls at 7am.   If I had known my rights back then, I would have known that there are ways to Stop Debt Collectors from harassing you.  For instance, did you know that if you write to them and tell them not to contact you, they can't.  This doesn't make the debt go away, but it will stop all the calls.

That probably would have been easier than getting rid of my phone, but that worked too.
