Love It!

I want this in my bathroom:

It's beautiful, isn't it? I have a thing for modern bathroom vanities.  The only problem is that I rent an apartment, so installing this is not an option. But one day, when I own my own home, this will be in it.

A Fancy Bathroom

 A friend of mine works for a delivery service.  She goes to different businesses and picks up their mail and packages and delivers them to the post office.  She also delivers between businesses, without using the post office.  This morning, she called and asked me if I wanted to ride along with her while she did her morning route.  Even though it was bright and early - 7:30 am! - I agreed. 

The first place we stopped was an office building.  There was a bank, a lawyer's office, and one other business in there, and the building itself was beautiful.  My friend insisted that we go into the bathroom.  She said they were "classy", and she was right.  The bathroom suites had individual little rooms for each toilet, instead of stalls.  The sinks sat in granite counter tops, and each sink had an individual mirror that was framed with a beautiful, antique looking frame.  I wouldn't have been surprised if that had an attendant standing there asking us if we needed a fresh towel.

I wish my bathroom at home was half as nice as this one was.  Then I got to thinking.  If their public bathrooms are that nice, I wonder what their private bathrooms look like.  They probably have gold plated toilets, or something like that.

I Love My Bathtub

I am sure those of you who are long time readers remember how much I hated the bathtub in the apartment we used to live in.  When we looked at the apartment, the power was off.  The bathroom was in the middle of the apartment, with no windows, so we only saw it using flashlights.

I think the management company did that on purpose. You see, once we had the power turned one (after signing the lease) we discovered that the bathtub was old.  Really old.  And rusted.  To cover up that fact, the management company painted it.  With regular paint that was peeling.  Something we didn't notice with just a flashlight.  They really could have used Luxury Bath Systems to make the tub usable. The entire time we lived there, I wouldn't let anyone take a bath.  Just showers.  After we moved out, the management company asked why we left, and Junior told them that one of the main reasons was the tub, and encouraged them to look into Shower Wall Surrounds.  

I don't think they listened to us. 

I was determined when we moved that I would find a place with a nice bathroom.  I didn't care if they had a Bath Shower Conversion, as long as the kids, and I, could once again take a bath.  I mean, the easiest way for me to relax is soaking in a hot tub with a good book. I was thrilled when we found this house.  It had not only one, but two bathrooms, both with clean, usable tubs.  The main bathroom has a standard bathtub shower combination, but my bathroom has a separate shower and tub.  Check it out:

It's nice, right?  I took this picture right when we moved in, and have cleaned it (several times) since then.  I have also soaked in it quite a few times. 

I think every woman needs a nice, relaxing bath now and then. Don't you agree?

Modern Or Weird? You Decide

Whenever people ask me what style I would choose to decorate my house in if I had unlimited money and resources, I always say modern.  I love clean lines, which should not be a surprise to my loyal readers.  Of course, there are some modern styles that are just confusing, and would never find themselves in my home. Take modern bathroom vanities, for example.  That sink over there is just crazy.  Is that globe the light fixture?  Talk about blinding someone. 

I think my style would be less 'in your face" and more subtle.

At least I think it would be. 

A New Kind Of Bathtub

The feature that appeals to older and handicapped people is that they can open that little door, and walk right into the tub and sit down. It has a built in seat, which replaces having to lower yourself all the way down into a regular tub.  In fact, "the integrated 17” (chair-height) ADA compliant contoured seat and safety grab bar provides you with a safe and secure shower or bath". This tub also comes with a whirlpool option, which I would definitely take advantage of

The one things that I questioned was the seal on the door of these walk in tubs,  but after doing a little research, I discovered that these tubs come with a lifetime warranty on the seal.  The doors also open into the tub, so there is no worrying about accidentally opening the door while it is full.  That would be quite a mess!

If you are interested in these tubs, like I am, you can find them at Costco, here in the US and in Canada.  I think Junior and i might be making a trip there very soon.  I may not be old or disabled, but that doesn't mean I can not enjoy one of these tubs.

Dream Home

Writing about bathrooms got me really wanting to look at some houses that are for sale. I know it will be difficult to find the exact house of my dreams, so I was also looking at home builders Winston Salem NC. Salem is not too far away from where I am in South Carolina, so I want Junior to drive up there with me to look at some of their model homes. Who knows. We may find plans for the house of our dreams. I just hope they can recreate the bathroom I have fallen in love with, and the kitchen I can see in my head with the white cabinets and the black and gray marbled counter tops. The floor in the kitchen will have to be a black and white checkerboard.

I'm not going to be too picky. Or am I?

My Dream Bathroom

I think every couple, when they first get married, dream about their first home. They both work, they rake in cash from wedding guests, they save their pennies, and then one day, they buy a home. Then they fill that home with children.

My husband and I did things a little backwards, and fourteen years later, we're still renting, and have about three dollars in our checking account. We are still in the dreaming phase of owning a home, and hopefully in the next few years we will be able to buy a place of our own. The only good thing about dreaming so long is that I know exactly what I want.

I'm not sure how you would categorize my taste, but I think it's somewhere in the modern category, but not too modern. I prefer clean lines, and I love anything black. I was looking at Bathroom Vanities, and found this one. Isn't it cool? I love that it is a Single Vanity
, would probably put two of them in my dream master bath. It kind of has that old fashioned wash basin feel, but in a contemporary way. It's made of stone and marble, and it's black! In fact, I love the look of the floor and walls, too, and want all of these things in my home. Am I still dreaming? Probably. But man, how cool do you think the rest of this bathroom looks? I'll tell you how weird my taste is, because I would want to put an old fashioned claw foot tub in this bathroom, too. Do you think they make those in black?
