Did I Expect Today To Go Well?

Today was dentist day. Last night, at the last minute, I decided to go with my sis~in~law to a fair at the church. Then we took the kids actual trick or treating. Now, this is the first time we've gone house to house in the dark, and the kids had a great time. Unfortunately, we didn't get home until almost nine, and the kids didn't get into bed until after 10. Then they couldn't sleep because they had eaten so much candy. When the alarm went off this morning, no one wanted to get up. Since they had dentist appointments and I would have had to pick them up early anyway, I let them all stay home. Yup, I get the lazy mom award for today. So off to the dentist we go. They call Brandi back. She wants me to go with her, but they don't allow it, so she bravely walks back on her own. Remember, they are pulling the two teeth we couldn't wiggle out. I was very proud of her for going back alone. It didn't last long. The hygienist comes back out and says that my sweet child told them, and I quote,"If you touch me, I will scream and run out of this room!"Now they want me back there. How quickly they change their minds. When I walk in the room, Boo is crying. She tears off the bib, and starts to get up. I get her to sit back down, but both hands go over the mouth. I tell her to put them down, and she does long enough to yell that she hates everyone who works there. Then both hands go back over the mouth.I finally convince her to just let them put the mask over her nose. Finally, she lets them. You can see her start to relax. They're talking about Halloween and watching SpongeBob, and the hygienist slowly sneaks the needle up...and as soon as Boo feels the first stick, she screams and throws her head from side to side. "You're hurting me!" she's screaming over and over and over.Brandi still has her teeth. On the 13th we're taking her to a pediatric dentist, which is where we should have gone to begin with. I was on the phone with the new patient coordinator for almost half an hour, and loved everything she had to say. They specialize in making a trip to the dentist an adventure. PS2 in the waiting room, TV's in the ceilings over the dentist chairs, ice cream and balloons for when they finish. It sounds wonderful. She even said we could bring Boo in for a tour of the office and to meet the staff prior to her appointment. They also allow parents in the rooms. They have special chairs right next to the patients, so I can sit and hold her hand the entire time.Even better news is that they are only doing a cleaning the first visit. She also said that the dentists in this practice prefer not to pull kids teeth, and only do it if it is absolutely necessary. She said at 5, the teeth will grow into the right space once the baby teeth fall out on their own. I hope she's right. So anyway, that was my day. Ryan and Kasi's cleanings went well. They suggested we look into braces for Ryan, but there is no hurry. It can wait a while. My boob squish is tomorrow. (aka mammogram) I've decided to listen to all my dear friends who suggested I drug up before hand. I still have some lortab left, so I'm going to take one before I go. Should make it more interesting, since I don't do well with medication. So wish me luck!!
