I never had a wedding. My husband and I were married at the courthouse on a Thursday morning. We decided against a big, formal wedding because I was 5 months pregnant at the time. I wore a blue maternity dress, and her wore black jeans and a shirt. There was no wedding dress, no tuxedo, and no bridesmaids. I didn't have a bridal shower, or a bachelorette party. I didn't get to register for the things I wanted at the fancy stores. My husband and I started our life together with nothing, and have come a long way.
I would have liked picking things out and registering for nice things. I always pictured myself picking out beautiful black and white china pattern, with luxury flatware and cutlery to compliment it. I would use these on holidays when I had my family over, and in the future when my kids had kids and they all came home for Christmas. I remember how my my mom used to use her good china and flatware on Thanksgiving when our entire family got together. I always complained about the forks, because they only had three tines, and it was hard to eat corn with them. You just couldn't get it to stay on the fork. I knew then that all my future forks would have four tines.
These days I use paper plates and plastic silverware when we all get together, and that's okay. It's more about being together than the things we use to eat. I would like to invest in some beautiful flatware someday. Maybe for my anniversary one year I will ask my husband to but me some. I don't need anything overly ornate. I have simple tastes. Maybe something with a simple rounded bottom, with a little decorative edge. I really like these:
Aren't they pretty? Not too fancy, but not too plain either. I think I might show this picture to Junior, you know, for future reference.
