Most people, myself included, complain when they are charged more for something than is advertised. But what do you do when you are charged less than the posted price?
I ask because I was in Walmart today, but not the one we normally go to. My mother taught me a long time ago to watch the prices of things as they ring up, and I do. Walmart is especially bad about things ringing up for the wrong prices.
Anyway, I was at the deli counter, and I wanted some salami. Normally, I pay $4.88 a pound at the regular Walmart. This Walmart had it for $5.34 a pound. I asked for a pound, thinly sliced, and then commented to Kasi that it was more expensive at this Walmart. When they went to weight my salami, I noticed that when they keyed in the salami, it showed up as $4.88 a pound.
I didn't say anything.
Now I think I should have. I think maybe the posted price was for a different brand of salami, or maybe it was just a mistake. I don't know.
What would you have done?

I would have asked if they meant to lower the price. If I was the clerk, and I did that by accident, I would want someone to say something. Too many discounts can lose the store money. If they are able to tell where the unauthorized discounts are coming from, the clerk can get fired.
I think most of Walmart's prices are consistent from store to store.. especially the ones located in the same area. The prices are most likey entered into the computer by their headquarters and not by the individual stores. So I would say that the pricing error was with whoever posted the price in the store and not with the the price that the computer rang it as.
Usually the situation is reversed... the item rings higher then the posted price because the item's price has not been corrected in the computer yet... in which case at Walmart... if you pay the higher price and then take the item and receipt directly to Customer Service you will get the item for free... at least that used to be their policy... this has only happened to me a couple of times and not recently. If you ask for the price to be corrected at the register by the cashier this will not be the case.... they will either just take your word for it or have someone verify the posted price and then re-ring it for you.

perhaps it makes me a bad person, but an error is an error and if it benefits you, why would you change that? make a bad throw in baseball, the runner isn't going to stop because you didn't mean to. knock the ball out of bounds in basketball, the other team isn't going to let you keep possession because you tried hard.
that said i never really check or correct errors that go the other way either. i've walked out of a store missing an item or two as many times as i've walked out without being charged or being charged less than i should have. it's like the take a penny tray. most times you leave one, but sometimes you need one.
eh, with walmart I say screw them. We stopped shopping there back in January because of all the issues we had. so when you get a good deal every so often, then take it. with other stores, I will mention it and they usually just grin and say it's your lucky day.
