Getting Healthy

I have decided that I am finally ready to get the rest of this weight off.  I was hoping that when I turned 40, I would be where I want to be, weight wise. Well, my 40th birthday was last Saturday, and I still have about fifty pounds to lose.  I know why I haven't been able to lose it.  Most days, I don't have time to come home for lunch, and I stop and grab something from a drive through.   Not the healthiest thing to do, I know.  Yesterday, I went grocery shopping and bought all kinds of healthy snacks, and I plan on making a lunch every morning to take with me, so I can avoid all the fast food.

I am not one to take anything to aid in my weight loss, but I am willing to take things that will help me get healthier.  There is something called Nopalea that you can drink to help your body get rid of toxins.  Drinking it every day can also help reduce inflammation and promote optimal health.  I am willing to give it a try, and I can do so for free (and so can you!) by calling 1-800-203-7063. There is a $9.95 fee for shipping, but I'm willing to pay that to see if Nopalea really works.

I'm hoping that by the time Spring rolls around I will have lost at least some of this weight.  I want to look better in all the cute shorts and tops I have for the warmer weather.  I mean, I am going to be single again for the first time in a long time, and it will be nice to have guys notice me again.

Sleeping Without Resting Is Not A Good Thing

I don't talk about it much over here on this blog, but I am sure some of you know that Junior and I go to therapy every two weeks.  It's not marriage counseling, but more of a place where Junior is learning to deal with his past.  We had a session yesterday, and we were talking about the problems Junior is having sleeping.  I know that he is getting enough sleep, as in sleeping for 6 or 7 hours, but he feels like he isn't resting when he's asleep.  You see, he has sleep apnea, so he sleeps using a pi-pap machine.  When he had his tonsils removed a few years ago, the doctor recommended having his machine re calibrated, but he never did. I think this is part of his resting problem. We didn't have medical insurance at that time, so it was too expensive for him to have another sleep study done.

We still don't have insurance for Junior and I, but he is looking into getting some.  We know it is going to be expensive, but we are hoping that for just the two of us, it won't be too bad.  I mean, we end up going to the ER for things that a regular doctor could easily treat, because we can't afford the office visits.  Having insurance would make it easier to see our family doctor, and also make another sleep study possible.

I have a feeling that a good nights sleep will do wonders for Junior, no matter what the cost.

The Bug Has Hit Our House

Last week, my mom and sister both got "the bug". It seems this virus is everywhere, knocking people on their butts pretty quickly. They were feeling better over the weekend, so we got together with them on both Saturday and Sunday. I guess they wanted to share with us, because Kasi got it two nights ago, and spent yesterday on the couch with a pretty high fever. Thankfully, she is feeling a little better today, and really wants to go back to school tomorrow. Imagine that, a kid who wants to go to school.

I called my mom this morning, and she said she has it again, only worse. I am sitting here praying that no one else in my house gets it, and my mom is struck with it twice. Not good.

Hopefully, Junior and I won't get it. I don't want him to end up having to be out of work, and I find it hard to run this house when I am sick. Another concern is that we do not have health insurance. The kids are covered by Medicaid, but Junior and I have nothing. If we need to see a doctor, it's a trip to the emergency room that costs way too much money. We have looked into getting insurance, but what they offer through Junior's work is outrageous. Even for just the two of us, it is too expensive. I have heard good things about Blue Cross Blue Shield, and have been on Junior to call them and see how much a policy will be for us. It has been years since we have had insurance, and the older we get, the more I worry about something serious happening to us. Junior doesn't come from a very good gene pool, as both of his parents fought cancer in their fifties. He is almost 44 now, and if the time comes that he has some health issues, I want us to be covered.

Of course, finding the right policy with the right provider is going to take some time, and a lot of research. But, in the end, it will be worth it.

On The Mend

My tooth is finally starting to stop throbbing. Did that just make sense? I skipped my 7:30 pain pill, it's now 11, and I'm still mostly pain free. I will take them before going to bed just to make sure I sleep through the night. I still can't "pop" my ear, and that is really annoying. I think the only thing more annoying would be eye twitches. I hate when my eyes start doing their own little funky dance. But, at this point, I think I would trade all this tooth and ear pain for some twitches. At least they don't hurt.

I am hoping that my tooth is completely better by Wednesday. I don't want to be miserable while we are on vacation.

How Old Are You?

Logo
There is this website, RealAge.com, where you can go take the RealAge Test, and they will calculate how old you are. Not your actual age, but how old your body is. Depending on how you treat yourself, you could score older or younger. I was SHOCKED when my results came back, and said I was 46.3! I'm only 36, and they have me pushing 50! I knew, though, as I was answering some of the questions that I was in trouble. They ask you the expected things, like height, weight, smoking habits, and health issues. Then they asked about family history. I found it amusing that they also asked about your driving habits. I guess if you admitted to being a speed demon that would affect your results. When they email your results, you are directed to a page where they list the reason's for your score. Mine said, basically, that I need to lose weight and exercise. I didn't see that coming! I had my cholesterol checked last year, and it was normal, and my blood pressure is usually normal, but because I didn't know the specific numbers, that went against me too. My family history of breast cancer didn't help either. I guess I need to make some changes in my lifetyle so that when I am 46 is 10 years, I can score a 36 on this test. You should go see how you rate. Take the RealAge Test! It's free!
