Social Studies

Ryan is doing better in Social Studies. He has brought his 55 up to a 59. Yeah, I'm so proud. Honestly, this is the first time he is failing a class. You may remember my husband went up to the school for a teacher conference, and the teacher was home sick. He was supposed to call so we could do the conference over the phone the next day, but he never did. Ryan, however, took it upon himself to sign up for in school tutoring. This is a new thing for us this year. Instead of the kids having to stay after school for extra help, they provide it during the day. He has missed a lot of chorus class, so we let him drop out. He has been tutored in English since September, and it has helped him so much. I hope the Social Studies tutoring helps him, too. Maybe then he could explain to me about the holodomor. I also hope he is able to get his grade up to at least passing before the next report cards come out. I'm not expecting an A, but I would love to see at least a D. He passed the first quarter, so he is not in danger of failing for the year, yet. He does not want to have to deal with me if he ends up in summer school.

Is he in 7th grade like my kids? Here in Texas, they take Texas history in 7th grade. They also had it in 4th grade, but it's more in-depth in 7th. They take American history in 8th and a world cultures class in 6th.

I hope he pulls his grade up! Our grading period ends 2 or 3 weeks after we go back Jan. 5. He can do it!
